Winter Weddings That Sparkle & Shine

There’s something magical about a snowy celebration…

We had the good fortune to be asked, last winter, to the wedding of a close friend. It was in January, just after the Christmas holidays, which might not seem like the best time but as everyone lived in the area, it worked out beautifully.

Fresh snow surrounded the home of the groom’s parents, a beautiful historical house with all the elegant features that you would expect, including cornices and columns, a wide porch and beautiful crown molding throughout the house.

The bride arrived wearing a beautiful white faux fur wrap and a sparkling tiara. Everything glinted and gleamed in the early evening light. It was utterly magical.

Is this your idea of a perfect celebration of marriage? Read on for ways in which you can make a winter wedding the sparkling event of the year.

Leverage Nature to Dine in Splendor

Mother Nature gives a perfect backdrop for a winter wedding, so leverage it to the best advantage! Use boughs of evergreen as part of the decoration, sprigs of holly with that burst of red from the berries, and white tulle everywhere to mimic snow with sprinklings of silver, gold and diamonds to catch the light of candles and tea lights.

Even table settings can be pulled from nature and be beautiful and elegant, such as this one from Brides magazine:

Brides

If you’re hosting a smaller wedding at home, the backdrop of a beautiful natural wood dining table is ideal to set off all the wintery colors and tones for your sit-down dinner.

Perhaps something like the Mai Solid Wood Dining Table. The rustic yet modern design in gorgeous sheesham is a great option for a winter wedding.

Paired with gorgeous plush and button tufted chairs like the Helina Side Chair, the simple and elegant designs of these pieces can be enhanced for the reception, though the spectacular roll on the back of the chair is perfect the way it is. Wouldn’t they make the perfect gift afterwards, for the bride and groom?

Beautiful Decor in Simple Eye-Catching Colors

Everything from the bridal bouquet to the boutonnieres can be drawn from a simple color palette that reflects the season, with the occasional burst of red or pink to draw the eye. Just imagine a dance floor surrounded by dangling faux icicles, shimmering lights and fragrant greenery.

The Knot

Spray painted pine cones, covered in white and glitter. Bowls of fake diamonds to catch the glint of dozens of white candles. Centerpieces crafted from cuts of wood, boughs of evergreen and sprigs of holly. What about an ice carving on your cake table? Can you picture it?

A Focal Seating Area for Photos

Taking pictures outside might be possible, but even the hardiest of guests will shrink back from the shivers after a while. Instead, create a photo corner where each guest or couple can sit against a shimmering backdrop or snowy window, in warmth and comfort, and be included in the big day’s pictures. Like prom pictures but so much better!

And what better way to set up that corner with a cozy and elegant faux fur settee, like the Emilia Settee in White. The sturdy but elegant acrylic cabriole legs will hold up and your guests can enjoy the luxurious faux fur seating while they smile for the camera.

With preparations well in hand, all that remains is to say, “I do”. How ever you choose to celebrate, a winter wedding could be the perfect setting.
